Solve a server error 500

A 500 Server Error indicates that a (temporary) issue has occurred on the server. There are several steps you can take to resolve this problem.

1. Check the Internet Connection

Verify if your internet connection is working as expected and stable.

2. Refresh the Page with a Hard Refresh

Sometimes, a server error may be caused by a temporary interruption in the connection with the server. The easiest action is to try a hard refresh:

Windows Key Combination: CTRL+F5

Mac Key Combination: CMD + Shift + R.

Tip: While waiting, you can try opening the website in another browser to check if the page works.

3. Enable/Disable Extensions

A website may have multiple extensions, and two conflicting plugins or extensions can cause a server error. To identify the problematic plugin or extension, deactivate all extensions and then reactivate them one by one. By testing the website after each step, you can determine which specific extension or plugin is responsible for the issues.

4. Clear Your Browser Cache

Clearing cookies/browser data in the browser can sometimes help. Clearing the browser cache depends on the browser you are using. Below are the steps for the most common browsers:

Google Chrome:

Open Google Chrome
Click on the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the screen
Select "More Tools" and then "Clear Browsing Data"
Choose the time range for which you want to clear the cache (e.g., "the past hour," "the past day," "all time")
Check the box for "Cached images and files"
Click "Clear Browsing Data"

Safari:

Open Safari
Click on "Safari" in the menu bar and select "Preferences"
Go to the "Privacy" tab
Click on "Manage Website Data"
Click "Remove All"
Confirm the action by clicking "Remove Now"

Microsoft Edge:

Open Microsoft Edge
Click on the three horizontal dots in the top right corner of the screen
Select "Settings"
Click on "Privacy and services"
Click "Clear Browsing Data"
Choose the time range for which you want to clear the cache (e.g., "the past hour," "the past day," "all time")
Check the box for "Cached images and files"
Click "Clear Browsing Data"

5. Wait and Try Again Later

Sometimes, a 500 Server Error can be caused by an overloaded server or technical issues that have not been resolved yet. Wait for a while and try again later to see if the problem is resolved.
