Share Pluvo material using LTI 1.3

Linking Pluvo Course Material to Another LMS with LTI

LTI, or Learning Tool Interoperability, is a widely used and straightforward way to link educational content to other systems. It enables various educational tools and platforms to collaborate. Below, we explain how you can link course material created in Pluvo to another Learning Management System (LMS).

Advantages of LTI Integration

Easy access to various learning materials from one place. With an LTI link, learners only need to log in once to access everything.
User information, course data, and scores can be shared with LTI. This allows administrators to track the progress of learners, even if they use a different platform.
Enhanced security: The security protocol ensures that only authorized users have access to your course material.
Setting additional conditions: With LTI, extra conditions can be set, such as determining who has access to the course material and for how long.

Linking Pluvo Course Material to Another LMS

The following steps explain how to add course material created in Pluvo to another learning platform.

Note: The process of adding an LTI module may vary for different learning systems. If you need assistance, it's recommended to contact the support of the other LMS.

Step 1: Linking the Two Learning Platforms

Go to the 'Management" tab in your academy, select 'Settings,' and then 'SSO & LTI.'

Click on "+ LTI platform," and a pop-up window will appear, where you can set up the LTI link.

In this pop-up window, you can create and name your LTI link.

Tip: It's advisable to name it in a way that refers to the learning system you are integrating with, for example, "Pluvo LTI link" or "Canvas LTI Integration."

You'll also find the required data you need: three URLs - Launch, Key, and Secret. These URLs need to be filled in the other learning system.

What Do We Need from You?

After copying the URLs to the other system, you'll also need some required data from that system. Enter the received data from the other platform in the fields below to link the two systems:

Platform Issuer ID: [Issuer ID of the LTI platform]
Client ID: [Client ID of the LTI platform]
User Deployment ID: [User Deployment ID of the LTI platform]
Public Key URL: [URL of the public key of the LTI platform]
Auth Token URL: [URL to obtain an authentication token from the LTI platform]
Auth Login URL: [URL for logging in to the LTI platform]

LTI Platform Data

Step 2: Setting Access

In the access section, you determine how many people have access to your material and for how long the link is active. Simply fill in the required fields and set the slider to "active" if you want a user in the other system to have access to all learning journeys in Pluvo.

Example: You've created three learning journeys and sold these journeys for one year to another client with a different platform. Here you can set the start and end date and the maximum number of participants, for example, 100. If the number of participants exceeds the limit of 100, the participant in the other platform receives a notification that they don't have access to your course material created in Pluvo.

Step 3: Selecting Shared Course Material

In this step, you can select the course modules and learning journeys that can be shared and visible in the other platform.
Set the access slider to "inactive" if you want a user in the other system to have access only to specific learning journey or course modules. Then choose the learning journey and course modules you want to share in the pop-up window:

Step 4: Passing (Custom) Parameters or Deeplinking

4.1. Passing (Custom) Parameters

If the other learning platform supports Deeplinking, you can skip step 4.1.

In the previous step, you chose the learning journeys and/or course modules you want to share. Now you need to pass the parameters to the other platform, so the course material is visible in the other LMS. A parameter is a unique ID associated with a learning journey or course module.

Course module parameter: course=f8b79******************
Learning journey parameter: training=feec4******************

For a learning journey, you can find the parameter in the URL of the learning journey, the part of the URL that comes after training/. Add the unique ID of the learning journey after "training="

Learning journey parameter: training=feec4********************

For a course module, you can find the parameter in the overview of the course module. Go to the 'Administration' tab in your academy, select 'material,' and then 'Course Modules.' Click on the relevant course module, and in the settings, you'll find the unique ID of the course module. Add the unique ID of the course module after "course="

Course module parameter: course=f8b79********************
![Course Module Parameter]

Note! The parameter you enter in the other LMS must match the chosen learning journey and course modules in the previous step. Otherwise, you won't have access to the material. Additionally, you can only enter one parameter at a time in the other learning system.

Once you click save and add the (custom) parameters to the other learning platform, you have created an LTI link. Below is an example of how parameters are entered at Studytube:

Studytube LTI Parameters

Test the link, and if successful, you are ready to use your LTI link!

Language option

If you want the user to receive a different language academy than the default language of the academy, you can pass a parameter with the desired language.
We support the following languages: English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Polish, and Czech.

lang=en
lang=nl
lang=de
lang=fr
lang=es
lang=pl
lang=cs

Once you click save and have added the (custom) parameters to the other learning platform, you have created an LTI link. Below is an example of how the parameters are entered at Studytube:

Please note: It is important here that 'training' is written with a lowercase 't'.

Afterward, test the link and, if successful, you are ready to use your link!

4.2. Deeplinking

Does the other learning platform support Deeplinking? In that case, you don't need to add (custom) parameters. Deeplinking automates the entry of parameters for you. This saves time and makes it easier to go directly from the other LMS to the desired content in Pluvo.

In the previous step, you chose the learning journeys and/or course modules you want to share. Click "Save," and the link is ready for use! From the other LMS, you'll see the screen below, and you can choose which learning journeys and/or course modules you want to see in the other platform.

How Does Pluvo Count LTI Users?

You subscribe to Pluvo based on the maximum number of users with access to your academy and the features you want to use. An overview can be found on this page.

LTI users count in the same way as other users in Pluvo. You can add and remove people in your academy as often as you like until you reach the number you purchased.

Viewing the Progress of (External) Users

Every LTI user in Pluvo is assigned a unique User ID. This User ID ensures that actions can be tracked, and the progress of LTI users is automatically saved.

Example: You've created an e-learning and sold this course module for one year to another client with a different platform. In Pluvo, you can easily track the progress of these LTI users and see when they have been active in your course module. For example, if 30 people complete the e-learning in the other platform, those 30 LTI users also count towards the total number in Pluvo.

Viewing Progress in Course Module

When you navigate to the respective course module and click on the 'report' icon, you will see a list of 'External users'. Click on 'Trainersview' to open the course module and view the responses given by the learner.

View Progress of External Users

You can also see the progress and answers in the reports, just as you would for course modules in Pluvo itself!
